Blenheim 7k and 1 mile Junior Run
Posted by: on Monday, February 15 @ 14:44:31 UTC
SUNDAY 9 MAY 2010 Starts at 11 am Entries are now open for the Blenheim 7k run and Junior 1 mile run which will take place at Blenheim Palace, Woodstock, Oxfordshire on 9 May. The run takes a scenic route around the trails and paths of Blenheim Palace, taking you past the Palace and over the Grand Bridge, before a spectacular lakeside section. The Junior race, open to under 15s, starts just after the main 7k and makes the event a great family day out. And entry entitles you to entry to the grounds, so after the race take your time to enjoy the surroundings, designed by Capability Brown, or visit the Palace. The 7k course is suitable for all ages and abilities. It offers a challenging run for the more experienced, and beautiful surroundings for the beginner or anyone who wants to take a more leisurely pace. All competitors receive a medal, and there are prizes for the first man and woman, first man over 40, 50, and 60 and first woman over 35, 45, and 55, as well as the first girl and boy under 15. For the junior race, there are prizes for the first girl and boy, and first girl and boy under 15, 12, and 9. Entry costs £10.00 for adults and £4.50 for under 15s. Entry includes entry to the Palace grounds. New for this year - bag storage A supervised bag storage will be available on site. The event provides a perfect goal for anyone wanting to get back into fitness. For some, this race has been the first step on the road to the London Marathon. In 2006, local mum Jane Bishop got in training for the 7k. Twelve months later, she ran the London marathon and has become a regular club runner. Jane was one of the first to sign up for the 2010 race, along with her husband and young children. Sponsors Thanks to Breckon and Breckon, chief sponsor of the run and other sponsors who kindly support the event again this year including Owen Mumford, Henmans and Elsevier. For more information email enquiries@blenheim7k.co.uk or visit the website www.blenheim7k.co.uk Comments on the 2009 run "A warm sunny day for a very scenic and pleasant run through the grounds of Blenheim Palace. The route followed paths and trails around the lakes, gardens, arboretums and the famous birth place of Winston Churchill. A great Fun run and family day as it included free access to the palace grounds for all runners and supporters. Harry Hailwood (12yrs) completed his longest run to date and managed a 7K PB of 54min 32sec. A full minute faster than the man dressed as a banana but a little behind the two ballerinas! …Next time he will get those ballerinas!" Paul Hailwood “I thoroughly enjoyed the day. It was well organised, very friendly and I really enjoyed the warm up before the race, over all a great 1st race experience for me and I would like to say well done for everyone involved and I look forward to coming back next year." Emma Francklin "This was my third running of what is my local event and I'm pleased to say that the race day experience (as well as my finish times) have improved every year. The organisation is excellent - I particularly enjoyed the pre-race warm up routines! And the public announcement system was worthy of a much bigger event. It really is a nice touch to learn about the race statistics and the achievements of individual runners as they cross the finish line. The route is excellent and combines some challenging up hill and multi-terrain sections with some very enjoyable downhill slopes. And the inflatable finish archway is a very impressive and welcome sight for tired legs! Thanks again, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience and hope to come back again and again in future years!"
