Sunday 29th September 2013, Speech House, Coleford, Glos.
Forest of Dean Autumn Half Marathon - 10am start. Tarmac free trails half marathon. Second running of this well received course through the Forest of Dean, taking in a respectable hill, fully marshalled, chip timed, water, medals, prizes etc. Extremely good value, charity fund raising event organised by our team of experienced volunteers. Not a rip off commercial event - but a really good do. Forest of Dean Autumn 5km run. 10.15 start. Ideal for spectators of above to do whilst they wait. Same woods, no hill, marshalled, medals, drinks etc. we even managed race chips last year, we'll see what we can do again.
Further details see http://www.forestofdean-halfmarathon.co.uk/

RACE MEETING:
The 10K Airbase Race will follow a fast, flat traffic-free course around the historic Heyford Park airfield, finishing at the end of the runway. Situated just 8 miles north of Oxford, Heyford Park was used as a military base during the Cold War as well as being an RAF base for many years before it was decommissioned.
There is free onsite parking for all competitors, the event will be chip-timed and there each runner will receive a t-shirt for crossing the finishing line. As it’s the first year this has been organised, there will also be prizes for the first runners to cross the line and set the records!

THE DESTINATION BASINGSTOKE HALF MARTHON 2013
Posted by: graeme on Wednesday, May 01 @ 13:28:54 BST
|
 |
RACE MEETING:
The third Basingstoke Half Marathon will take place in Sunday 6th October, after fantastic reviews in 2011 and 2012 it has recently been rated as one of the top 10 Half Marathons in the country by Runner’s World.
The course is challenging – undulating through rural villages with great views, but this hasn’t stopped it attracting elite athletes who broke the course record in 2012 by 8 minutes – 64 minutes and inspite of the hills, many athletes set personal best times.
The race organisation has been praised, with all roads fully closed to give a traffic free route, very friendly marshals with a huge amount of local support (especially at the local pubs!) – a great atmosphere unusual on such a rural route. All the usual facilities at the start/finish plus retail outlets and radio roadshow. Overall this is a race with the organisation and facilities of a big race, but the community feel of a much smaller one.
We look forward to seeing you on 6th October.

'Iffley Miles'
Posted by: graeme on Wednesday, May 01 @ 13:08:23 BST

 |
RACE MEETING: Oxford Uni AC are planning to hold their 'Iffley Miles' meeting for the third successive year this summer, on Saturday 20th July at Iffley Road track. Last year's event was a big success, with Aussie four-time Olympian Craig Mottram being the most famous athlete to compete. This year, the BMC are making the event one of their Grand Prix meetings and also a celebration of their 50th Anniversary, so it promises to be even bigger than before. We want to ensure that runners of all abilities are able to compete on the historic track where Roger Bannister became the first man to break the four-minute mile, so we will again be holding one mile and 600m open races before the BMC event. Everyone is welcome. More information is available at http://ouccc.org.uk/events/iffley-miles/
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We anticipate a rough timetable for Sat 20th July of: 12:30pm – open races (mile and 600m) 2:30pm – BMC Nike Grand Prix ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Entries will open later in spring, I will email again when they do. Unlike last year we shall not be accepting on-the-day entry for open races; please enter in advance by 13th July.

Tour de Trigs hiking competition
Posted by: graeme on Thursday, February 28 @ 15:34:51 GMT
|
 |
The famous Tour de Trigs hiking competition is set to return to the pathways and byways around Banbury in Oxfordshire in early December.
The competition night hike, visits pretty much every hill in the area, has been staged here for the past 46 years.
The demanding hike – which is open to all - attracts teams of three from around the world, say organisers.
'It's great because it is bloomin hard work!' says one of the event directors, Jeremy Wilton.
'Here in the south Midlands we have very few good 'outdoor' challenges - we don't have an Aonach Eagach to traverse or a Snowdon horseshoe to complete. I can guarantee however, that if the first full weekend in December is wet and cold (as it usually is), the Tour de Trigs is a challenge on a par with the hardest hikes in the country.'
'When your boots are clogged with Oxfordshire mud and it's pouring with rain, it really can feel like you're in the middle of Rannoch Moor!'
The competition is divided into a 55-mile and 30-mile (junior) course, each of which have to be completed in 24 hours. In the very limited daylight of early December that means much will be done in the dark. Neither course is a soft touch, organisers promise, and drop-out rates have been as high as 80% in the past - even among teams of service personnel.
The course is revealed to competitors on the morning of the hike and needs to be plotted on an OS map - no GPS allowed. A number of awards are given including the fastest team, oldest team, and fastest mixed team.
This year's event will go ahead with the backing of Banbury Rotary Club, Banbury Charities and many from the previous year's organising committee.
It takes place over the 7th & 8th December 2013. For more info see the Tour de Trigs website www.tourdetrigs.org.uk For more Information please contact: Jeremy Wilton Four Shires Magazine Borough House Marlborough Road Banbury OXON OX16 5TH
