Oxford Half 14th October 2012 - results
Posted by: graeme on Tuesday, November 20 @ 12:58:39 GMT
|
 |
The 2012 event started with a ‘bang’ on the crisp morning of Sunday 14 October as sporting legend Sir Roger Bannister set off over 3,000 competitors on a new UKA-licenced course – an increase of more than 100% from the 2011 ‘pilot’ race. Crowds lined the route as the runners took in the fantastic Oxfordshire scenery including the spectacular backdrops of the River Thames, Christ Church Meadow, Universities, MINI Plant production facility and the Kassam Stadium – raising thousands of pounds for local charity Helen & Douglas House who provide the very best hospice care for children and young adults. David Bruce set a new course record of 1:08:35 and first lady home was Sophie Carter in 1:19:45. Hook Norton Harrier David Bunney in 735th place in a time of 1:42:36 There were 3033 finishers. New NHS Sports injury clinic
Posted by: graeme on Monday, September 03 @ 17:32:55 BST

Dear Club Secretary, Coach, Athlete I’m writing to let you know about a new NHS Sports Medicine Clinic in Birmingham. This is free for anyone, and just needs a referral from your GP. I appreciate Birmingham might be a long way for some people, although some athletes have come from Scotland and Cornwall! Nevertheless, this is why I’ve started a campaign for better services for sports people in the NHS. As you know, injury can be the ruin of many an aspiring athlete, so it’s essential that we have good services to serve the needs of grassroots sport. With the memories of London 2012 still fresh in everyone’s mind, there seems to be a renewed interest in increasing sports participation in the UK, but without medical services to support British sport, many young athletes will leave Track & Field following an injury. If you believe in this please sign my petition to get parliament to discuss this:- http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/36185 many thanks and wishing you the best sporting success in the years ahead, Leon. Olympic Torch Relay - Volunteers required
Posted by: graeme on Monday, April 23 @ 08:21:49 BST
|
 |
During it’s tour of the UK, the Olympic Torch will be coming to Oxford in the afternoon on Monday 9th July and will be leaving the city on the morning of Tuesday 10th July.
Whilst in the city, the torch will travel down 5.7 miles of Oxford's roads and streets; giving our community the opportunity to be part of the London 2012 celebration. This event will not only attract residents of Oxford, but will also be a show stopping event for residents of Oxfordshire, the wider counties and the city's tourists.
On the evening of 9th July there will be a celebration event in Oxford's South Park. The torch will then leave Oxford University's famous Iffley Road running track on the morning of Tuesday 10th July to continue its journey out of the county on to Berkshire.
Over 500 volunteers are needed; with the majority needed to steward the torch route through Oxford and this is where we need your help!
Various times are available, which can be found on the volunteer registration form at this link: http://eepurl.com/kGgBr
